Cops release footage of man suspected to have fired at Umar Khalid

New Delhi, Aug 14: The Delhi Police on Tuesday morning released a footage of a man suspected to have shot at JNU student leader Umar Khalid. The incident took place yesterday (August 14) outside the Constitution Club in Delhi. Umar was at the venue to attend an event titled Khauff Se Azaadi, organised by the United Against Hate group.

The suspect fleeing the spot on a CCTV camera installed at Vitthalbhai Patel Road in Delhi, reported ANI.

An eyewitness reportedly said Umar and his friends were having tea at a stall on Rafi Marg and were about to enter Constitution Club when two men, "who looked like they 28 to 35 years of age" attacked Umar.

Khalid had in June this year filed a complaint alleging that he was getting death threats.

"Filed a complaint with @DelhiPolice regarding Ravi Pujari's death threat to Jignesh and me. He said that I am on his HIT LIST! I have asked for police protection, given the fact that this is the same person who had previously also issued similar threats of killing me in Feb 2016 (sic)," Khalid has tweeted earlier this year.

Khalid was among the three Jawaharlal Nehru University students who were arrested in connection with an event held on February 9, 2016, on campus in which anti-national slogans were allegedly raised.
