Ajit Pawar Announces Construction of New Bridge at Kundmala After Monsoon with Tourist Viewing Gallery

A new bridge will be constructed at Kundmala in Pune district after the monsoon, according to Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. This decision follows the collapse of an old iron bridge over the Indrayani river, which resulted in four fatalities. The incident occurred on Sunday around 3:30 pm when the bridge, a popular tourist spot, gave way under the weight of over 100 people.

New Bridge at Kundmala to Begin Soon

Pawar, who also serves as Pune's guardian minister, visited the site and met with those injured in the collapse. He assured that work on the new bridge would start promptly after the rainy season. Additionally, he mentioned that a structural audit of other bridges in the area would be conducted to ensure safety.

Bridge Safety Measures and Future Plans

Instructions have been given to dismantle or remove any bridges deemed unsafe for public use. Pawar emphasised that ensuring public safety is a priority. The new bridge at Kundmala will not only replace the collapsed structure but will also include a viewing gallery for tourists.

The scenic beauty of Kundmala attracts many visitors who come to enjoy nature. Therefore, additional funds will be allocated for this gallery to enhance the experience for tourists. This initiative aims to maintain Kundmala as a safe and attractive destination.

Pawar stated, "The work of the new bridge at Kundmala will commence immediately after the monsoon." His visit to the hospital where injured individuals are receiving treatment underscores his commitment to addressing this tragic incident.

The structural audits and removal of unsafe bridges are part of broader efforts to prevent similar tragedies. These actions reflect a proactive approach to infrastructure safety in Pune district.

By prioritising these measures, authorities aim to restore confidence among residents and visitors alike. The focus remains on ensuring that such incidents do not recur, safeguarding both lives and livelihoods in the region.
