Congress' Donation Page Redirects Donors To BJP's Page, Mallikarjun Kharge Says One Month Salary Gone

Hours after Congress launched an online donation campaign 'Donate for Desh' to raise crowdfunding to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2024, the portal faced a technical glitch. According to the reports, the grand old party did not register its domain name before launching the 'Donate for Desh' campaign. If a donor clicks on Cogress' DonateforDesh.org link, the page gets redirected to BJP's donation page.

Soon after the technical block came to notice, Congress leaders attacked the saffron front accusing them of copying and creating fake domains to confuse Congress supporters and donors.

Notably, a similar name domain is acquired by the news website OpIndia. Congress' real domain name for this campaign is donateinc.net.

Congress's social media and digital platforms chairperson Supriya Shrinate took to Twitter to say "The BJP is afraid and in panic mode."

"Why is BJP so afraid despite having autocratic power, all institutions, all resources, and maximum money? When Congress started the donation campaign, not only did they (BJP) panic but their system also started creating fake domains and confusing them. By the way, thanks for copying us - it's good to see your fear," Supriya Shrinate said in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter). Her tweet was in Hindi which was translated by the micro-blogging site.

Addressing the media, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, who launched the crowdfunding campaign by donating a sum of ₹ one lakh, 38 thousand, said "Ek mahine ki tankhaw gayi (one month's salary is gone)."

The grand old party launched the campaign aiming at the Lok Sabha Elections slated for next year. "Empower the party to create an India rich in equal resource distribution and opportunities" reads the Congress' page.

The Congress in a post said, "Beyond a campaign, it's a commitment to champion the rights of marginalised communities, bridge disparities, and stand as a formidable opposition against a government favouring the affluent"
