Congress Welcomes Possible Introduction of Women's Reservation Bill in Parliament
The Congress party has welcomed speculation that the Women’s reservation bill may be tabled in Parliament on Tuesday. Senior Congress leaders Jairam Ramesh and P Chidambaram express their anticipation for the details and potential victory for their party if it is indeed introduced.
Amid the swirling speculation that the much-awaited Women's Reservation Bill may finally be tabled in Parliament on Tuesday, the Congress party has expressed its support for this potential move. The introduction of this bill is seen as a significant step forward by many, given that the party has been advocating for such legislation for quite some time.
Congress Welcomes the Move

"We welcome the reported decision of the Union Cabinet and await the details of the Bill," stated Jairam Ramesh, Congress general secretary, in a post on social media platform X. However, he also voiced his concern over what he perceived as an unnecessary shroud of secrecy surrounding discussions about this important piece of legislation. "This could have very well been discussed in an all-party meeting before the Special Session, and consensus could have been built instead of operating under a veil of secrecy," commented Ramesh.
A Victory For The Congress And Its Allies
P Chidambaram, senior leader from Congress party echoed similar sentiments with regard to welcoming this development. He went onto suggest that if indeed introduced on Tuesday, it would represent a victory not only for their party but also for its allies who were part of United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government. He reminded people that it was during UPA regime when this bill had initially been passed in Rajya Sabha back on 9th March 2010.
"In its 10th year, BJP is resurrecting a Bill that it had buried hoping that clamour for it will die down" said Chidambaram while highlighting how his own party had consistently championed cause at every opportunity they received; most recently during Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting held at Hyderabad where they pleaded vociferously to get it passed in parliament.
The Hope For A Positive Outcome
The Congress party's hope now is that the bill will finally see the light of day in Parliament. The Women's Reservation Bill, if passed, would mark a significant milestone in India's political landscape by ensuring increased representation for women. It has been a subject of intense debate and discussion over the years, with its supporters arguing that it is essential to rectify gender imbalance in politics.
In conclusion, while there seems to be support from both sides of the aisle for this important legislation, it remains to be seen how it will fare once tabled in Parliament. If passed, it could usher in a new era of female empowerment and political participation in India - an outcome eagerly awaited by many. However, as pointed out by Ramesh earlier on X platform – details about this bill are still under wraps which might hold key to understanding how different parties may react when time comes for voting on this historic legislation.
