Congress to Expose Failures of Delhi's BJP MPs, Party Responds
New Delhi, March 19 - In a strategic move to connect with the electorate, the Congress party announced its intention to directly engage with the public to discuss the performance of the seven Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs in Delhi. Arvinder Singh Lovely, the chief of the Congress's Delhi unit, made this announcement in response to the BJP's declaration of their 100-day priorities for the national capital, which includes enhancements in health and education sectors.

Lovely criticized the BJP's claims of development in Delhi, pointing out alleged shortcomings in their tenure. He highlighted that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rural development scheme, the expectation was for MPs to adopt 56 villages; however, only 12 have been adopted. Furthermore, Lovely accused the BJP MPs of failing to contribute to the establishment of new schools, hospitals, and other essential infrastructure over the past decade.
The Congress plans to issue a charge sheet against the BJP MPs, detailing their alleged failures. This initiative is part of the "Hissab Do, Jawab Do" campaign, which seeks accountability from the BJP MPs regarding their utilization of MPLAD funds and their contributions to tackling issues such as Delhi's air pollution and the condition of the Yamuna River.
In contrast, the BJP defended its track record in Delhi. Praveen Shankar Kapoor, a spokesperson for the BJP's Delhi unit, stated that the central government and outgoing MPs have significantly contributed to Delhi's development. The party claimed investments exceeding Rs 3 lakh crore in various projects over five years, including road infrastructure improvements, electric bus acquisitions, and pollution control measures.
The BJP also highlighted its role during the COVID-19 pandemic and criticized the AAP government's performance. It announced plans to release a white paper on alleged corruption under Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's administration. The AAP has challenged the BJP to showcase its achievements in Delhi over the last decade.
Amidst these political exchanges, concerns were raised about the use of enforcement agencies for political purposes. Lovely commented on recent Enforcement Directorate summonses to Kejriwal, emphasizing that while wrongdoing should be addressed, political interests should not drive agency actions.
Delhi is set to vote for its seven Lok Sabha seats on May 25 in the sixth phase of India's general elections. With 1.47 crore eligible voters, these elections are a crucial battleground for both national and regional parties.
