PM Modi Accuses Congress of Prioritising Vote-Bank Politics Over Poverty Eradication Efforts
Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticised the Congress for its approach to poverty eradication, accusing it of making empty promises while engaging in vote-bank politics. Speaking at a rally in Kharghar, Raigad district, he claimed that the Congress has historically exploited the poor rather than helping them. Modi emphasised that his government has lifted 25 crore people out of poverty since 2014.

Modi highlighted the Congress's alleged promise to provide subsidised gas cylinders to illegal immigrants, including Rohingyas and Bangladeshis, if they come to power in Jharkhand. He questioned whether those who support infiltrators should be given any opportunity. Modi urged unity among citizens to counter divisive forces.
Development Initiatives in Maharashtra
The Prime Minister outlined various development projects in Maharashtra, stating that the state is on the verge of an infrastructural transformation. Key initiatives include the Atal Setu sea bridge, Navi Mumbai International Airport, Vadhavan Port, and the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway. These projects aim to position Maharashtra as a growth hub.
Modi also mentioned a significant investment of Rs 30,000 crore in a Data Centre Park in Raigad, which is expected to make Maharashtra a leading tech hub in Asia. He assured coastal communities of continued support, particularly for the fishing industry, with a Rs 1,000-crore package for modernisation and blue economy initiatives.
Social Welfare and Empowerment
The Prime Minister highlighted his government's social welfare schemes that have reached over 80 crore citizens across India. In Raigad alone, 18 lakh people have benefited from free ration distribution. Modi stressed that these initiatives are empowering marginalised communities neglected by previous governments.
He pointed out schemes like the PM Awas Yojana and Lakhpati Didi programme, which have helped women achieve financial independence. "The Congress mocks these programmes, but they transform the lives of millions of women," he stated.
Political Dynamics and Elections
Modi warned against Congress's attempts to divide communities for political gain. He accused them of exploiting Dalits, tribals, and Other Backward Classes (OBCs) for power while being reluctant to support their progress. The upcoming elections are crucial for securing Maharashtra's long-term future, he asserted.
The Prime Minister expressed his admiration for Maharashtra's rich history and culture, recalling his visit to Raigad Fort in 2013 to seek blessings from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. He emphasised the need to continue Shivaji Maharaj's vision of self-rule and good governance for a developed India.
The assembly poll results are set to be announced on November 23. Modi's remarks come as part of his campaign efforts ahead of the elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand.
