Congress Hits Back at Modi Over Wealth Redistribution Remarks

The Congress party has vociferously countered Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent statements regarding wealth redistribution, accusing him of resorting to misinformation and hate speech amidst the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. This clash of narratives emerged following Modi's comments at a rally in Rajasthan's Banswara, where he suggested that the Congress, if elected, intends to allocate the wealth of citizens to Muslims, referencing a statement by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh about the minority community's entitlement to the country's resources.

Congress Rebuts Modis Remarks

Reacting sharply to these allegations, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge criticized Modi for allegedly diminishing the prestige of his office through such remarks. Kharge argued that Modi's speech was not only filled with hate but also aimed at diverting attention from pressing national issues. He attributed Modi's approach to the ideological training provided by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), accusing them of habitual lying and misrepresentation for political gain.

Rahul Gandhi, a prominent Congress leader, echoed Kharge's sentiments, suggesting that Modi's tactics were a sign of desperation following unfavorable outcomes in the initial phase of voting. Gandhi emphasized that the electorate is focused on core issues like employment and future prospects, undistracted by the Prime Minister's attempts at deflection.

Jairam Ramesh, Congress General Secretary, also criticized Modi for his failure to address questions concerning youth, women, farmers, Dalits, and backward classes, accusing him of lying and making derogatory statements to shift focus from real concerns. Ramesh speculated on the BJP's performance in the elections, hinting at a significant setback for the party.

Further criticism came from Pawan Khera, head of Congress' media and publicity department, who challenged Modi to substantiate his claims regarding the Congress manifesto promoting Hindu-Muslim division. Khera defended the manifesto as inclusive, focusing on justice for various societal segments without any communal bias.

At the heart of this political skirmish is Modi's interpretation of the Congress manifesto. He alleged that it proposes an inventory of gold owned by families to redistribute wealth, particularly favoring Muslims based on previous government statements. The Congress has refuted these claims, clarifying that their manifesto does not endorse redistribution but supports a comprehensive socio-economic caste census.

The ongoing electoral battle has thus been marked by a war of words between the ruling BJP and opposition Congress, with both sides trading accusations of misinformation and divisive politics. As India continues to vote in the Lok Sabha elections, these exchanges underscore the heightened tensions and polarized narratives shaping the country's political landscape.
