Congress Releases First List of Candidates for Upcoming Delhi Assembly Elections

The Congress party has announced its initial list of 21 candidates for the Delhi Assembly elections. Among the notable candidates is former MP Sandeep Dikshit, who will contest from New Delhi. This sets up a potential face-off with AAP's Arvind Kejriwal, who currently holds the seat. In 2013, Kejriwal defeated Sheila Dikshit, Sandeep's mother and a three-time chief minister, in this constituency.

Congress Announces Candidates for Delhi Elections

Key Candidates and Constituencies

Devender Yadav, the Delhi Congress chief, is running from Badli. Haroon Yusuf, a former Delhi minister, will contest from Ballimaran. Chaudhary Anil Kumar, an ex-Delhi Congress chief, is fielded from Patparganj. Ragini Nayak, a national spokesperson, is contesting from Wazirpur. Adarsh Shastri is representing Dwarka. Other candidates include Ali Mehndi in Mustafabad and Abdul Rehman in Seelampur.

The list also features Rohit Chaudhry for Nangloi Jat and Praveen Jain for Shalimar Bagh. Aruna Kumari will stand in Narela, while Mangesh Tyagi is contesting Burari. Shivani Singhal is fielded from Adarsh Nagar, Jai Kishan from Sultanpur Majra SC, and Mudit Agarwal from Chandni Chowk. PS Bawa will compete in Tilak Nagar.

Candidate Selection Process

The Congress leadership finalised these names after a meeting of the central election committee led by Mallikarjun Kharge. Prominent leaders like Rahul Gandhi and Ambika Soni participated in the discussions. The committee approved the list after thorough deliberations on each candidate's suitability for their respective constituencies.

Qazi Nizamuddin, overseeing party affairs in Delhi, expressed concerns over the city's governance. He stated that both the Centre and Delhi government have been blaming each other for poor conditions. "People have been suffering the consequences and they are now hell-bent on teaching these two governments a lesson," he remarked post-meeting.

Congress Strategy and Vision

Devender Yadav highlighted that their candidate list reflects diversity and includes new faces. "All categories have been taken care of in our list," he noted. The party aims to bring fresh perspectives to address the issues facing Delhi residents.

Previously, there was speculation about a possible pre-poll alliance between Congress and AAP. However, leaders like Arvind Kejriwal and Devender Yadav have confirmed that both parties will contest independently in the upcoming elections without forming any alliances.

The Congress party's candidate announcement marks a significant step towards their campaign strategy for the Delhi Assembly polls. With a mix of experienced politicians and newcomers, they aim to challenge the current political dynamics in the capital city.
