Congress' New Headquarters With 'Indira Bhawan' To Be Inaugurated On This Date
The Congress party is set to inaugurate its new headquarters, 'Indira Bhawan,' located on Kotla Marg in New Delhi. This event is expected to take place next week, with top Congress leaders likely to attend. The building at 9A, Kotla Marg has been under construction for several years.
Despite the new development, the Congress will maintain its current office at 24, Akbar Road. This location has served as the party's headquarters since 1978 when Congress (I) was established. Some of the party's cells will continue to operate from this historic site.

New Headquarters and Transition
The delay in constructing 'Indira Bhawan' was attributed to financial constraints following the Congress's loss of power at the Centre. Initially, offices such as administration and accounts will move to the new premises. The Mahila Congress, Youth Congress, NSUI, and other departments are also expected to relocate.
The Akbar Road bungalow in Lutyens' Delhi became the AICC headquarters after the party's defeat in the 1977 Lok Sabha elections. This building once housed Sir Reginald Maxwell, a member of Viceroy Lord Linlithgow's executive council. Alan Braithwaite's grandson visited from the UK to see this historical site.
Historical Significance and Comparisons
Interestingly, the BJP has not vacated its former headquarters at 11, Ashoka Road despite moving to Deendayal Upadhyaya Marg. This mirrors Congress's decision to retain its Akbar Road office while transitioning to 'Indira Bhawan.' Both parties seem keen on preserving their historical roots.
