Congress MLA charged with rape after complaint by woman whom he had accused of 'blackmail'
Congress MLA Hemant Katare has been booked on charges of rape following a complaint by a woman against whom Katare had earlier filed a complaint of blackmailing him.
On January 24, the police had arrested the alleged rape victim after a complaint by Katare, who is a Congress MLA representing Ater assembly constituency in Madhya Pradesh.
The victim, who is in Bhopal Central jail, gave a written compliant on January 31 to Bhopal DGP. The victim's mother has also approached the police and accused Katare of kidnapping and threatening them after which an FIR was filed.
The victim, in her letter to the DGP, stated that she first met Katare at a function organised by an NGO. The MLA took her phone number after which, she alleges, that he raped her at a place called Juna Gym. She wrote that Katare photographed her, threatened her to make those photos public and raped her many times, reported Dainik Bhaskar.
The victim's mother, meanwhile, complained to the DGP that Katare kidnapped her and forcibly made her sign on some documents.
The police have booked Katare under sections 365, 384, 386, 34 of the IPC.
