Senior BJP Leaders Running from MP Assembly Polls: Congress's Randeep Singh Surjewala
Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala accuses senior BJP leaders of avoiding the forthcoming assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh. He claims that the party has run short of candidates and its prominent figures are unwilling to be on the battlefield.
On 28th September, in Indore, Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala voiced his views on the upcoming assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh. He claimed that there was an ongoing race among senior BJP leaders from the state to avoid contesting in the forthcoming polls. This statement comes at a time when the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has already declared 79 candidates for these crucial elections.
BJP's Candidate Shortage Allegations

The list of declared candidates by BJP includes prominent figures such as Union ministers Narendra Tomar and Prahlad Patel, along with party general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya. However, according to Surjewala, who is also the Congress’s general secretary in charge of Madhya Pradesh where polls are due by year-end, "The BJP has run short of candidates in MP and its big leaders are in a race to avoid being in the fray." He further alleged that these high-ranking members were attempting to evade participation and were encouraging others within their ranks to step up instead.
Political Maneuvering Claims
Furthermore, Surjewala accused Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia of strategically pushing their political rivals into the election battleground. According to him, this maneuver was aimed at ensuring their personal safety while putting other party members at risk. In his words: "The Chouhan-Scindia duo have scripted a movie titled 'Hum To Dubenge Sanam Tumko Bhi Le Dubenge' (We are drowning; we will take you along)."
An Insight Into Electoral Politics
This revelation provides an insight into India's electoral politics where often internal dynamics play as significant role as external competition. The claims by Surjewala, if true, indicate a possible internal strife within the BJP ranks in Madhya Pradesh. The alleged reluctance of senior leaders to contest might be indicative of their assessment of the party's prospects in the upcoming elections.
In conclusion, it remains to be seen how these allegations impact the political scenario in Madhya Pradesh and whether they hold any truth. As India gears up for another round of assembly elections, such instances underline the complexity and intrigue that mark electoral politics in one of the world’s largest democracies. The onus now lies with BJP to either validate or refute these claims while ensuring a fair and democratic process for candidate selection.
