Congress Hits Out At PM Modi For Terror Spike In Jammu & Kashmir: 'In Last 98 Days...'

The Congress party on Saturday slammed the Narendra Modi government for a surge in terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, attributing it to failed policies.

Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate, during a press conference, pointed out that there had been "25 terror attacks in the Union territory in just 98 days since Prime Minister Narendra Modi took his oath for the third term."

According to Shrinate, these attacks resulted in the deaths of 21 security personnel and injuries to 28 others, while 15 civilians were killed and 47 sustained injuries.

Shrinate questioned the government's earlier promises of peace in the region following the revocation of Jammu and Kashmir's special status in August 2019.

She said, "Huge claims were made that after August 2019, peace will be established in Jammu and Kashmir. But in the last 98 days, there have been 25 terror strikes."

She added that areas in Jammu, such as Doda and Reasi, which were previously peaceful, have also seen a resurgence in violence.

Shrinate paid tribute to two Indian Army soldiers who were martyred during a recent gunbattle in Kishtwar and called out Prime Minister Modi for his silence on such incidents. She stated, "PM tweets on small issues, discovers new countries on the world map to travel to, and wishes happy birthday to people, but since 2019, Modi has stopped sending tribute or sympathy messages."

In her criticism, Shrinate emphasized that the prime minister's social media activity rarely acknowledges the sacrifices made by security personnel in Jammu and Kashmir. "The least you can do is pay homage for the supreme sacrifices our forces and police forces are making in J-K," she asserted, accusing the government of wanting to project an image of normalcy in the region despite the ongoing attacks.

However, during an election rally in Doda, Prime Minister Modi claimed that terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir was nearing its end, saying, "Terrorism is taking its last breath in Jammu and Kashmir. We and you together will make Jammu and Kashmir a secure and prosperous part of the country."

The upcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir are scheduled for September 18, 25, and October 1, with the counting of votes on October 8.
