Congress Picks Prahlad Gunjal to Contest Against Om Birla in Kota

New Delhi, March 25 - In a strategic move ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Congress party has made a significant announcement by fielding Prahlad Gunjal, a former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and confidant of ex-Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, against the incumbent Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla for the Kota constituency in Rajasthan. This decision comes shortly after Gunjal's recent induction into the Congress, marking a pivotal shift in his political career.

Gunjal vs Birla in Kota Battle

The announcement was part of the Congress's sixth list release, which includes five candidates for the Lok Sabha elections. Alongside Gunjal, the party has nominated Ramchandra Choudhary for Ajmer, Sudarshan Rawat for Rajsamand, Damodar Gurjar for Bhilwara in Rajasthan, and C Robert Bruce for Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu. These strategic candidate placements are aimed at strengthening the Congress's position in these regions.

Prahlad Gunjal's transition to the Congress was formalized last Thursday in Jaipur, in an event graced by notable figures such as former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Rajasthan Congress chief Govind Singh Dotasra. Gunjal, who has served as the MLA from Kota North on two occasions but faced defeat in the last assembly elections, is known for his vocal leadership style. His move to Congress is anticipated to significantly influence the party's prospects in the Hadoti region.

With these latest nominations, the Congress has now declared a total of 190 candidates for the seven-phase Lok Sabha elections set to commence on April 19. The party also made adjustments to its candidate lineup for other elections, announcing Tharahai Cuthbert for the Vilavancode assembly constituency by-election in Tamil Nadu and replacing its Palin ST assembly constituency candidate in Arunachal Pradesh with Tarh Johny, who takes over from Takam Pario.

The seven-phase Lok Sabha elections are scheduled to begin on April 19, with the nation eagerly awaiting the results on June 4. The Congress's strategic candidate selections reflect its preparation and determination to make a strong showing in this electoral contest.
