Congress Fields Kanhaiya Kumar, Udit Raj for Delhi Lok Sabha Elections
In a strategic move ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in Delhi, the Congress party, in collaboration with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has unveiled its candidates for three crucial constituencies. This announcement marks a significant step in the political landscape of Delhi, showcasing the alliance's readiness to contest the upcoming elections under a seat-sharing agreement. Among the notable candidates are Kanhaiya Kumar for the North East Delhi seat, Udit Raj for North West Delhi, and JP Agarwal for Chandni Chowk.

The Congress-AAP alliance has been formalized under a 3:4 seat-sharing arrangement, with AAP taking the lead in four constituencies and Congress contesting in three. This partnership is seen as a tactical alliance aimed at consolidating opposition votes against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the national capital.
Kanhaiya Kumar, a prominent figure due to his past as the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) president, gained national attention following his arrest in 2016 on charges of allegedly raising anti-national slogans. However, he was later released as investigations pointed towards the involvement of outsiders in the incident. Kumar, who had previously contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Begusarai on a Communist Party of India (CPI) ticket and faced defeat against BJP's Giriraj Singh, is now set to challenge BJP's Manoj Tiwari, a two-time MP and Bhojpuri singer-turned-politician.
JP Agarwal brings to the table his vast experience and previous victories from the Chandni Chowk constituency in 1984, 1989, and 1996. His candidacy is a testament to his enduring presence and influence in Delhi's political arena. On the other hand, Udit Raj, a former MP who secured his seat in 2014 as a BJP candidate from North West Delhi-SC constituency, joined Congress in 2019 following his dissatisfaction with BJP's ticket distribution.
Delhi is poised for an intense electoral battle with polls scheduled for May 25. The counting of votes will be held on June 4, which will determine the outcome of this closely watched contest. The Congress-AAP alliance aims to make significant inroads in Delhi by leveraging their combined strength against the incumbent BJP candidates.
This election not only represents a critical juncture for the participating parties but also for Delhi's electorate, who are keenly observing these developments. The outcomes of these contests could potentially reshape Delhi's political landscape and set new directions for future electoral strategies.
