Congress Declares Candidates to Challenge BJP in Madhya Pradesh Lok Sabha Polls

In a strategic move ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, the Congress party announced its candidates for three more constituencies in Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday. This latest announcement includes notable names such as former Member of Parliament (MP) Pratap Bhanu Sharma, who is set to contest against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) veteran Shivraj Singh Chouhan in the Vidisha constituency. Additionally, Rao Yadvendra Singh and former MLA Tarwar Singh Lodhi have been nominated to challenge BJP candidates in Guna and Damoh, respectively.

Congress vs BJP in MP Lok Sabha Polls

The Congress has now revealed its contenders for 25 out of the 28 seats it plans to contest in the state, marking a significant step in its election campaign. The party's decision to field experienced politicians against key BJP figures highlights its intent to strongly contest in Madhya Pradesh. Notably, the Khajuraho seat has been allocated to the Samajwadi Party as part of a seat-sharing agreement.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP secured a dominant victory in Madhya Pradesh, winning 28 out of 29 seats. This year, the Congress aims to challenge this dominance by selecting candidates with significant political backgrounds and local influence. Rao Yadvendra Singh, who joined the Congress approximately a year ago and is the son of former BJP MLA Rao Deshraj Singh, will contest in Guna against Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia. Despite losing the Mungaoli assembly seat election in 2023 as a Congress nominee, Singh's political lineage and experience are expected to bolster his campaign.

Pratap Bhanu Sharma, who has previously won Lok Sabha elections in 1980 and 1984, brings a wealth of experience to his candidacy against former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in Vidisha. This contest is anticipated to be one of the highlights of this election cycle in the state.

However, the Congress has yet to announce its candidates for three remaining constituencies: Khandwa, Gwalior, and Morena. Meanwhile, the BJP has already completed its candidate selection for all 29 Lok Sabha seats in Madhya Pradesh. As both parties finalize their strategies and candidate lineups, the upcoming elections promise to be highly competitive and closely watched.
