Gadkari Accuses Congress of Distorting Constitution While Blaming BJP for Changes

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari criticised the Congress on Monday for alleging that the BJP intends to alter India's Constitution. Speaking at a rally for BJP candidate Charansingh Thakur in Katol, he accused the Congress of having previously distorted the Constitution for its own benefit and imposing Emergency in 1975. Maharashtra's assembly elections are scheduled for November 20, with results expected on November 23.

Gadkari Critiques Congress on Constitution Issues

Gadkari emphasised that the BJP would not modify Babasaheb Ambedkar's Constitution, nor would they permit anyone else to do so. He referenced the Supreme Court's ruling in the Kesavananda Bharti case to support his argument. "The basic structure of the Constitution cannot be changed," he stated. He highlighted that essential features like freedom of speech, democracy, socialism, secularism, and fundamental rights are immutable.

Constitutional Integrity and Historical Context

The minister pointed out that during the Emergency, Indira Gandhi altered the Constitution. He accused Congress of being responsible for this distortion and now unjustly blaming others. "In the history of the country, it was Congress which did the sin of distorting the Constitution and they now blame us," Gadkari asserted.

Gadkari praised Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, noting that he provided governance similar to Lord Ram's Ram Rajya, which Mahatma Gandhi advocated for India. He stressed that establishing Ram Rajya is not solely in leaders' hands but also depends on the people. He urged voters not to base their decisions on caste, race, religion, or language.

Social Harmony and Electoral Integrity

He argued that a person's worth is determined by their qualities rather than their caste. Gadkari called for an end to untouchability and casteism. He criticised leaders who rely on caste for electoral success instead of merit. "Leaders who can't win on merit use caste for electoral gains," he added.

Gadkari urged people to choose honest and non-corrupt leaders to ensure a better future. He highlighted that individuals seek quality food and healthcare without considering caste. "Your future will not change till you elect honest, non-corrupt leaders and party," he said.

He mentioned that the Mahayuti government has introduced numerous welfare schemes for citizens. Gadkari questioned whether any of these initiatives exclude Muslims and Dalits from applying, implying inclusivity in their policies.
