Congress Files Complaint Over Fake Rahul Gandhi Letter to Mislead Bengal Voters
In a recent development that has stirred the political landscape of West Bengal, the Congress party lodged a formal complaint with the Election Commission. The grievance centers around an allegation against the Trinamool Congress (TMC), accusing them of forging the signature of Rahul Gandhi on a counterfeit letter aimed at misleading voters in the Maldaha Dakshin Lok Sabha constituency. This incident emerges amidst the heated run-up to the polling scheduled for Tuesday in the said constituency.

The controversy gained momentum following the emergence of a "fake" letter, purportedly carrying the forged signature of Rahul Gandhi, on what appeared to be an All India Congress Committee letterhead. In this counterfeit correspondence, Gandhi is falsely claimed to have directed Isha Khan Chowdhury, the Congress candidate for Maldaha Dakshin, to support the TMC in a bid to defeat the BJP. This act of misinformation comes on the heels of another contentious episode where a video clip featuring Adhir Chowdhury, Congress's Baharampur candidate, was declared "manipulated" by police authorities. The clip misleadingly suggested Chowdhury was urging votes for the BJP, aiming to secure a "political advantage."
The state Congress leadership, in their complaint, highlighted that such deceptive tactics contravene the model code of conduct governing Lok Sabha elections. They detailed how miscreants associated with the TMC allegedly replicated Rahul Gandhi's signature and disseminated false statements in Bengali to confuse voters within the eight-Maldaha Dakshin Parliament constituency.
Contrary to the claims made in the fraudulent letter, Mallikarjun Kharge, the President of Congress, had recently rallied in Maldaha, explicitly calling for support towards the Congress party. The discrepancy between Kharge's public endorsement and the contents of the fake letter has raised concerns over attempts to manipulate voter sentiment and undermine democratic processes.
In light of these events, the Congress has appealed to the Election Commission for swift action against those responsible for crafting and circulating the misleading document. The party's call for intervention underscores the urgency of addressing such malpractices to safeguard electoral integrity.
This incident underscores a growing challenge within Indian politics where misinformation can potentially sway electoral outcomes. As Maldaha Dakshin prepares for its imminent polling day, the focus intensifies on ensuring a fair and transparent electoral process, free from deceit and manipulation.
