Congress, BJP Make Gains in Telangana Lok Sabha Polls as BRS Suffers Loss
In a significant turn of events in the Lok Sabha elections, both the ruling Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Telangana have emerged victorious in eight constituencies each out of the total 17, leaving the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) without a single seat. This outcome marks a notable shift in the political landscape of Telangana, highlighting the Congress's resurgence and the BJP's growing influence in the state.

The Congress's performance is particularly noteworthy as it has managed to increase its tally from three seats in 2019 to eight in this election. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, who also serves as the state unit president, spearheaded an energetic campaign that played a crucial role in this achievement. The campaign's success was further bolstered by the six poll guarantees announced by the Congress, which resonated with voters. These guarantees included promises such as free travel for women on state-run buses, LPG cylinders at a reduced price of Rs 500, and free electricity up to 200 units for the economically disadvantaged.
On the other side, the BJP also doubled its seat count from four in 2019 to eight, attributing its success to the popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the construction of the Ram temple at Ayodhya, and the achievements of Modi's government. High-profile campaigns by PM Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and other senior leaders significantly contributed to their electoral gains.
However, the BRS faced a major setback, failing to secure any seats. This loss is seen as a considerable challenge for the party, which had dominated Telangana politics until recently. Factors such as alleged inaccessibility of its leadership and legal troubles involving BRS MLC K Kavitha have been cited as reasons for its poor performance.
In contrast, AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi successfully retained his Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat for a fifth consecutive term, demonstrating his continued appeal among voters despite a strong challenge from BJP's K Madhavi Latha.
The elections were held across all 17 Lok Sabha constituencies in Telangana in a single phase on May 13, marking a pivotal moment in the state's political narrative. The results reflect shifting allegiances among Telangana's electorate and set the stage for intriguing political dynamics ahead.
As both Congress and BJP celebrate their gains, and BRS contemplates its next moves, Telangana's political scene remains vibrant and unpredictable. The outcomes of these elections not only reshape the immediate political landscape but also hint at evolving strategies and alliances in anticipation of future electoral battles.
