Congress Appoints New District and City Committee Presidents in Gujarat to Strengthen Grassroots Leadership
The Congress party has initiated a significant restructuring at the grassroots level in Gujarat by appointing new District and City Congress Committee Presidents. This move is part of the Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan, launched in April to rejuvenate the party's framework from the booth to district levels. The campaign emphasised transparent and ideology-driven leadership selection, according to AICC general secretary KC Venugopal.

Venugopal stated that on April 12, 2025, a team of 43 AICC Observers and 183 PCC Observers, including senior leaders like State In-Charges, MPs, MLAs, and former PCC Presidents, were deployed across Gujarat's districts. These observers conducted field visits in all 26 Lok Sabha constituencies and 182 Assembly segments. They also visited nearly all 235 Block Congress Committees.
Leadership Selection Focus
The observers engaged with party workers, civil society members, and local communities through public interactions, one-on-one meetings, and press conferences. These activities aimed to evaluate the organisational environment within the state. Venugopal highlighted that this process was closely monitored by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi.
The newly appointed DCC Presidents reflect Gujarat's social and regional diversity. They were selected based on their grassroots connections, ideological clarity, and organisational skills. This strategic move is seen as a crucial step in preparing for the 2027 Gujarat Assembly Elections.
Preparations for Future Elections
This organisational overhaul marks a significant milestone for the Congress party as it gears up for future electoral challenges in Gujarat. By focusing on inclusive leadership selection and engaging with various stakeholders, the party aims to strengthen its presence at the grassroots level.
Venugopal noted that this exercise represents a comprehensive effort to revitalise the party's structure across all levels. The involvement of senior leaders in this process underscores its importance in shaping the party's future strategy in Gujarat.
The Congress party's initiative underlines its commitment to fostering a robust organisational framework that aligns with its ideological values. This approach is expected to enhance its electoral prospects in upcoming elections.
