Congress Alleges UP CM Adityanath's Opposition to Reservation

The Congress party has levelled serious accusations against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, asserting that he harbours opposition towards the reservation system in India. These allegations come amidst claims that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) are aiming to secure over 400 seats in the Lok Sabha with the intention of overhauling the Indian Constitution, which was framed under the guidance of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, to adopt principles aligned with the Manusmriti.

UP CMs Stance on Reservation Questioned

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh brought attention to this issue by sharing an article from Chief Minister Adityanath's website. According to Ramesh, Adityanath has used derogatory terms such as "useless" to describe the reservation system for backward classes, Scheduled Castes (SCs), and Scheduled Tribes (STs). Ramesh's concern is that such a stance reflects a broader agenda within the BJP and RSS to dismantle the current constitutional framework in favor of one that mirrors Manusmriti's ideology.

In a series of posts on social media platform X, Ramesh highlighted his concerns. He pointed out Adityanath's alleged negative views on reservation, questioning what such views imply about the chief minister's attitude towards Dalits, Adivasis, and backward classes who benefit from reservation policies. Ramesh's call for Adityanath to "break the silence" underscores the gravity of the allegations being made.

Furthermore, Ramesh noted recent demands by several BJP leaders for a commanding majority in the Lok Sabha as a means to facilitate constitutional amendments. He interprets these developments as indicative of a broader dissatisfaction with the Indian Constitution and its provisions for reservation among top BJP and RSS figures.

The historical context of these allegations was also touched upon by Ramesh, who cited criticism of the Indian Constitution by the RSS's publication 'Organiser' shortly after its adoption in 1949. This reference serves to underscore the longstanding nature of the ideological clash between proponents of Ambedkar's constitutional vision and those advocating for a different framework inspired by ancient texts.

This controversy sheds light on a significant ideological divide within Indian politics, concerning the principles of social justice and equality enshrined in the Constitution versus alternative visions rooted in historical texts. The debate over reservation policies and constitutional values continues to be a contentious issue, reflecting broader societal debates over caste, social equity, and national identity.
