Concerned China speaks bluntly with Pakistan on security of its projects

China will sent out a blunt and stern message to Pakistan on the security of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects.

With the Pakistan leadership visiting Beijing this month, China would tell Islamabad that there would be repercussions on the all-weather ties, if terror attacks are not prevented and Chinese nationals are not targeted. The message was delivered to Pakistan ISI Chief, Lt. General Nadeem Anjum in Beijing earlier this month. It has also been underscored by China during the on-going visit by Army Chief Asim Munir.

The security situation in Pakistan is constantly declining due to an economic meltdown. There has also been an increase in the number of terror attacks on Chinese nationals and at Gilt-Baltistan in Occupied Kashmir.

Very recently the Karachi police had resorted to temporarily shutting down some businesses run by Chinese nationals in the city in order to prevent terror strikes. This development was viewed as an embarrassment to both countries, which claimed that they shared a 'milk and honey,' relationship.

In March, China had temporarily closed the consular section of its embassy in Islamabad days after it had advised its nationals to remain more cautious due to the worsening situation in Pakistan.

The number of attacks are on the rise as many Pakistanis are now suspicious that their land is being encroached upon under the guise of enhancing their economic situation.

This is however not the first time that Beijing has expressed its dissatisfaction over the way in which its projects and people are being protected. China had expressed dissatisfaction over the existing security arrangements and had raised concerns repeatedly with Pakistan.

China's Foreign Minister, Qin Gang had told his Pakistan counterpart, Bilawal Bhutto earlier in January that he is extremely concerned with the safety of Chinese nationals in Pakistan and hoped that Islamabad would continue to take strong security measures.
