Complain on these numbers if you are charged more than MRP at cinema halls

Hyderabad, Aug 1: Starting today the Legal Metrology Department (LMD) will be cracking the whip on cinema halls and multiplexes that fail to sell water bottles, cool drinks and food at the price listed on the MRP labels.

Those who fail to comply with the regulations will stare at both penalty and imprisonment. In a bid to ensure that the regulations are complied with, the department will also conduct special checks.

Those who seek to complain can do so by calling the toll free number 180042500333. You could also complain on WhatsApp using 7330774444. Cinema halls and multiplexes will have to display the numbers.

First penalty Rs 25,000 and case will be booked. Second Penalty Rs 50,000 penalty and case will be booked. Third Penalty Rs 1,00,000 and imprisonment of 6 months to a year.

Chief Controller, Akun Sabharwal, Legal Metrology, said, "Every business or service or entertainment intended for consumers should be legal and authorised. If any consumer faces a loss, theatre owners will be held responsible and serious action would be taken.

The first checks have been announced. However, once these preliminary checks are completed, the department will make unannounced checks to ensure consistency in compliance."
