Collective Newsroom Launches As An Independent News Company
Collective Newsroom, an independent Indian-owned media company, has launched with a mission to become the home of India's most credible, creative, and courageous journalism.
Operating from India, Collective Newsroom will produce programs and content for its inaugural client, the BBC, and is open to creating content for other news providers in India and around the world. The company aims to serve Indian audiences with innovative and impactful journalism while covering stories of interest to a global audience.

Rupa Jha, CEO of Collective Newsroom, expressed her excitement about the company's official launch, highlighting its clear mission to produce credible, creative, and courageous journalism. She emphasized the wealth of experience and talent within the company's teams, positioning Collective Newsroom as an independent news organization that prioritizes facts, public interest, and diverse voices and perspectives.
Joining Rupa Jha as fellow directors are Mukesh Sharma, Sanjoy Majumder, and Sara Hasan, all of whom bring extensive editorial and programming experience to the table.
Collective Newsroom's first client is the BBC, with whom it has secured a contract to produce content for BBC News Hindi, the BBC's language service with the largest audience. In 2023, the service's weekly reach grew by 27% year-on-year across all platforms.
As part of its remit, Collective Newsroom will create and publish journalism for BBC News in six Indian languages: Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Tamil, and Telugu. Additionally, the company will produce content in English for the BBC News India YouTube channel, along with other English-language content.
