Cold Wave Hits North India: Dense Fog Blankets Delhi-NCR, Chilly Days Ahead Until Jan 5

A drop in its minimum temperature to 6-9 degrees Celsius was observed in Delhi on Wednesday morning, and an improvement in terms of visibility was noted as shallow fog conditions were recorded at the Safdarjung weather station. According to the weather department, dense to moderate fog was experienced in the national capital the previous day, with the air quality remaining in the 'very poor' category. However, the visibility in Delhi was 500 meters, indicating the presence of shallow fog.

In Noida and Greater Noida of Uttar Pradesh, schools were ordered to be shut for students up to Class 8 until January 6 due to severe cold weather conditions in the district. In other parts of north India such as Punjab and Haryana, 'cold day' conditions are expected to prevail until January 5. Dense to very dense fog conditions are anticipated during the night and morning hours in parts of Punjab and Haryana from January 2 to 5, and in isolated pockets thereafter for the following two days, as stated by the weather department.
