Ram Navmi violence in Hyderabad; Telangana sixth State to witness it

Although no complaint was filed, the cops took suo-moto cognisance of the matter. "A clash occurred between two groups in the Charminar area. A few people from the Muslim community attacked a few people from the Hindu community who came on a bike and started sloganeering on Ram Navmiday during Ramadan evening prayers," ANI quoted Charminar Station House Officer (SHO as saying.

"Police didn't receive any complaint, however, a case has been filed by taking suo-moto cognisance. The accused are yet to be identified," the SHO said.

Further investigation is underway.

Clashes during Ram Navmihave been reported in West Bengal's Howrah district, Maharashtra's Aurangabad and Malvani, Gujarat's Vadodara, Bihar's Sasaram and Nalanda and a minor issue in Karnataka's Hassan.

In Bengal, violence broke out on Thursday evening between two groups when a Ram Navmiprocession was taken out in the twin city of Howrah. Several vehicles, including some belonging to the police, were torched and shops and auto-rickshaws ransacked during the violence.

However, a fresh stone pelting incident was reported on Friday. A number of local people locked themselves inside houses while shops and markets were closed. Vehicular movement was disrupted following the incident of stone pelting.

Clashes took place between different groups in the Aurangabad city of central Maharashtra as well as in the Malvani area of Mumbai on Thursday. Over 20 people have been arrested in connection with the violence.

Whereas in Gujarat, police detained 24 persons for allegedly hurling stones at two Ram Navmiprocessions in communally-sensitive areas in Vadodara city.

In Bihar, the Bihar cops have arrested over 20 people following a clash between two groups in Nalanda district during a Ram Navmiprocession on March 21. The authorities have imposed Section 144 in the district as well as Sasaram which also reported a clash on Friday.

In Nalanda, miscreants pelted stones and set around half a dozen vehicles ablaze on the 10th day of Ram Navmicelebrations near Gagan Diwan under the Laheri Police Station area in Biharsharif, according to a report.

Also, clashes broke out between two groups in Hassan in Karnataka during a Ram Navmiprocession. Four people have suffered injuries after they were stabbed when the procession was passing by a mosque. However, preliminary investigation has said that it was a minor scuffle and the situation is normal in the city. A total of nine people have been arrested.
