CJI Chandrachud Rebukes Lawyer For Responding With 'Yeah, Yeah' In Supreme Court: 'I am Allergic To...'
On Monday, Chief Justice DY Chandrachud sternly admonished a lawyer for repeatedly using the term "yeah" during arguments. Chandrachud stressed on the importance of formal language in the courtroom.
"Don't say 'yeah yeah yeah.' Say 'Yes.' This is not a coffee shop. This is a court. I am a little allergic to people saying 'yeah.' This cannot be allowed."

The lawyer was arguing against the dismissal of a plea involving former Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, now a Rajya Sabha MP. The petitioner demanded a probe against Gogoi, but Chandrachud took exception:
"How can a PIL be filed with a judge as a respondent?"
The petitioner responded: "Yeah, yeah, the then CJI Ranjan Gogoi. I was asked to file a curative."
Chandrachud reiterated that Justice Gogoi, as a former Supreme Court judge, cannot be named in such a petition.
"The lawyer later explained that Gogoi had dismissed his plea relying on a challenged statement. Chandrachud instructed the petitioner to remove Gogoi's name from the plea.
This incident follows Chandrachud's recent rebuke of a senior counsel seeking the removal of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over her handling of a rape and murder case.
