China's Alleged Attempts to Dilute Buddhist Identity in the Himalayan Region, Says RSS Leader Indresh Kumar
Senior RSS leader Indresh Kumar has accused China of attempting to erode the identity of Buddhists in the Himalayan region, including Tibet. He made these remarks after a four-day visit to the Buddhist-majority tribal districts of Lahaul and Spiti and Kinnaur, which are near the Chinese border.

Kumar alleged that China is orchestrating marriages between Chinese youth and Tibetan and Himalayan Buddhist girls to weaken their cultural identity. He also mentioned China's recent declaration about naming the successor of the Dalai Lama, urging strong opposition to this move to convey that Tibetans and Buddhists will not accept interference in their spiritual matters.
Challenges Faced by Buddhists
During his visit, Kumar engaged with local communities at Tibetan monasteries, discussing developmental, religious, and cultural issues. He emphasized the importance of being vigilant about the challenges they face. He urged Buddhists and Sanatani Hindus to unite against efforts to divide them.
Kumar highlighted that Christian missionaries are allegedly promoting conversions through service and education. He stressed that both Tibetans and Hindus should understand that conversion leads to a change in identity.
Development Initiatives
The Indian government has launched various schemes aimed at the comprehensive development of border areas. Kumar stated that the state government should ensure these centrally sponsored schemes are implemented effectively for quicker progress in these regions.
He concluded by reiterating the need for unity among Buddhists and Hindus to preserve their cultural identities against external influences. Kumar's visit aimed to raise awareness about these issues among local communities.
