Protest March Halted By Police Near Minister's Residence
IYC workers gathered at Teen Murti Circle in the national capital before marching towards the residence of the Education Minister. Carrying banners, posters and party flags, demonstrators raised slogans against the BJP-led NDA government and alleged large-scale corruption in the examination process.
Police personnel stopped the protesters before they could reach the minister's residence, following which several Youth Congress members were detained. Among those detained was IYC president Uday Bhanu Chib.
The protest comes days after the NEET-UG examination, conducted on May 3, was cancelled over allegations of irregularities and paper leaks.
Re-Test Announced After Cancellation Of NEET-UG
Following mounting criticism and concerns raised by students and opposition parties, the Education Ministry announced that the NEET-UG examination would be conducted again on June 21.
The cancellation of one of India's biggest competitive examinations has triggered widespread debate over the credibility of the examination system and the safeguards in place to prevent leaks.
Youth Congress workers alleged that repeated incidents of paper leaks had damaged the future of students preparing for competitive exams.
Opposition Targets BJP Over Examination System
During the protest, IYC members claimed that the education system had "collapsed" under the BJP-led NDA government. Protesters alleged that examination leaks had become increasingly common over the past decade.
Claiming that nearly 89 examination papers had leaked in the last 12 years and that NEET itself had allegedly faced four such incidents, the protesters said the repeated controversies raised "serious questions" over the transparency and integrity of the system.
The protest also highlighted concerns about inequality in access to education and opportunities.
Protesters Allege System Favours The Wealthy
Speaking during the demonstration, one IYC worker criticised the government and alleged that corruption in the examination process was hurting students from ordinary families the most.
"The BJP has created such a corrupt system that children of the wealthy will secure seats and jobs, while students from poor families will suffer," an IYC worker said.
The protest adds to the growing political row surrounding NEET-UG 2026, with opposition parties continuing to demand accountability from the Centre over the alleged leak and cancellation of the examination.
