Woman delivers baby in open ground as health centre remains closed

A 24-year-old woman delivered a baby on Sunday in an school playground in Jashpur as primary health centre had not opened for the day. The incident took place in Chhattisgarh's Jashpur district.

According to a media report, the woman, who was going through severe labour pain, also had to walk down nearly two kilometres after frantic calls made to 108 ambulance and 102 proved futile as the number was found busy.

Sampatti Bai who hails from Ghughri village in Bagicha block of Jashpur went in labour early on Sunday. On reaching there, she found that the health centre was locked much to her despair. Though she waited for someting hoping that it would open but her pain aggravated. The family then decided to go to another hospital. Hardly walking 100 meters, the woman delivered the baby.

There had been several instances of women giving birth to infants at unusual places like autorickshaws after being denied of admission in hospitals.

Earlier on July 27, a woman in Jaipur had delivered a baby at the gates of the Jaipuria Hospital, following which an auxiliary nurse midwife was suspended.
