Chhattisgarh Cabinet Announces Key Decisions on Education, Renewable Energy, Wildlife Conservation, and More
The Chhattisgarh government approved significant measures in education for marginalized communities, renewable energy subsidies, and wildlife conservation during a recent Cabinet meeting. These initiatives aim to enhance accessibility, promote green energy, and protect the state's tiger population.
In a significant Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai at his Civil Lines residence office, the Chhattisgarh government made several crucial decisions across diverse sectors, ranging from education and energy to wildlife conservation and economic development.

A landmark decision was taken to extend educational benefits to communities that have been technically excluded from the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes lists. Students from communities such as Dihari Korwa, Baghel Kshatriya, Sansari Oraon, and Pabia/Pavia/Paviya will now receive state-funded scholarships and stipends equivalent to those granted to Scheduled Tribes. Likewise, students of the Domra caste will be entitled to benefits akin to those given to Scheduled Castes. Hostel and ashram admissions will also be facilitated for these communities within approved seat limits.
In an effort to promote renewable energy and reduce electricity costs for consumers, the Cabinet approved financial aid for rooftop solar installations under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. Through the Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company Limited (CSPDCL), beneficiaries will receive central and state subsidies depending on solar plant capacity. For instance:
- 1kW system: Rs 45,000 total aid (Rs 30,000 from Centre + Rs 15,000 from State)
- 3kW or higher system: Rs 1,08,000 total aid (Rs 78,000 from Centre + Rs 30,000 from State)
Targets have been set for the installation of 60,000 rooftop solar plants in 2025-26 and 70,000 in 2026-27, with respective budget allocations of Rs 180 crore and Rs 210 crore.
Establishment of Chhattisgarh Tiger Foundation Society
To safeguard Chhattisgarh's rapidly declining tiger population, currently estimated at 18-20, the Cabinet has approved the formation of the Chhattisgarh Tiger Foundation Society under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. This self-financed society will function similarly to the Madhya Pradesh model, raising funds through voluntary contributions without placing any financial burden on the state. It aims to drive conservation efforts, eco-tourism initiatives, and research programs while generating employment opportunities.
Infrastructure Boost for Education and Horticulture
Furthering its commitment to education, the Cabinet sanctioned the merger of the Vivekananda Institute of Social Health, Welfare and Services (VISHWAS) into the parent institution, Ramkrishna Mission Ashram Narayanpur. Additionally, 100 acres of government land in Belgaon have been transferred free of cost to the Horticulture Department for establishing a Horticulture College under the Horticulture University in Bemetara district.
Expansion of 'JashPure' Brand for Tribal Livelihoods
To strengthen agro and food processing units and boost employment for tribal women, the Cabinet approved the transfer of ownership of the 'JashPure' brand to the state government or the Chhattisgarh State Industrial Development Corporation (CSIDC). This will expand its market reach without any additional financial burden on the state.
Enhanced Support for Families of Martyred Police Personnel
Recognizing the supreme sacrifice of police officers who fall victim to Naxalite violence, the Cabinet revised Clause 13(3) of the Unified Revised Guidelines-2013 for compassionate appointments. Eligible family members of deceased officers will now be allowed to opt for appointments in any department across any district or division of the state, offering them greater flexibility.
Formation of State Mineral Exploration Trust
To improve mineral exploration and infrastructure development, the Cabinet approved the State Mineral Exploration Trust (SMET). Modeled after the National Mineral Exploration Trust, SMET will receive an additional 2% of royalty revenue from minor minerals, which will be utilized for high-tech exploration, logistical improvements, and workforce development in the mining sector.
With these key decisions, the Chhattisgarh government aims to enhance education accessibility, drive green energy adoption, strengthen wildlife conservation, and facilitate economic development-marking an important milestone for the state's future.
