Chhattisgarh Govt Approves 5-Year Age Relaxation for State Govt Jobs

The Chhattisgarh government has approved a proposal to extend the upper age limit for state government recruitments by five years, taking the maximum age to 40. The relaxation is a one-time benefit and will not apply to fresh recruitments in the police department.

In a significant move, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Chhattisgarh has approved a proposal to extend the upper age relaxation for government recruitments by five years for bonafide residents of the state, effectively raising the maximum age limit to 40 years. This decision, however, excludes fresh recruitments in the police department.

Age No Bar: Chhattisgarh Govt Extends Age Limit for State Jobs

Key Points of the Decision

The one-time upper age relaxation will be applicable from January 1, 2024, to December 31, 2028. Previously, the maximum age for candidates applying for state government jobs was 35 years, which has now been increased to 40 years.

The previous Congress government had raised the maximum age for government job aspirants from 30 to 35 years, and the current BJP government has continued this policy by extending it for another five years.

For reserved category candidates, the maximum age limit, including all relaxations, will not exceed 45 years.

Relaxation for Police Constable Recruitment

While the upper age relaxation will not apply to appointments in the home police department, male candidates applying for the post of constable will be granted a five-year relaxation in the upper age limit. This decision considers the pending recruitment of constables from previous years.

In 2018, the state police initiated recruitment for 2,259 vacant constable posts. After approximately five years, the home department advertised 5,967 vacant constable posts, and the process of filing online applications by candidates is currently underway. The five-year relaxation will apply to male candidates for this police constable recruitment, bringing them on par with their female counterparts who already enjoy this benefit.

Sub-Committee to Review Political Cases

In another significant decision, the cabinet approved a proposal to form a sub-committee to withdraw purely political cases from the judiciary in the state. This sub-committee will assess and decide on withdrawing police cases filed against individuals for participating in political protests.

The Chhattisgarh government's decision to extend the upper age relaxation for government recruitments and establish a sub-committee to review political cases demonstrates its commitment to addressing the concerns of job aspirants and promoting social justice in the state.
