Chennai and other coastal districts are set to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours, stated IMD officer Balachandran. The Met office has predicted a maximum and minimum temperature of 32 degrees Celsius and 24 degrees Celsius, respectively, for Chennai on Monday.

The rainfall in the city and neighbouring areas was due to the arrival of northeast monsoon.
The heavy rains brought back memories of the 2015 floods in Chennai and other parts of the state causing deaths of many people.
Several people were tweeting about Chennai rains constantly, making #ChennaiRains one of the top trends on Monday.
