Chennai prepares for a shutdown, companies ask workers to leave home early: Reports

According to media reports, several multi-national companies in Chennai have asked their employees to leave office early to avoid hassles.

Chennai, Dec 5: If reports are to be believed, Chennai is preparing for an early shutdown on Monday, as the health conditions of Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa remains "grave".

The Chief Minister, undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospitals, Chennai, since September 22, suffered cardiac arrest on Sunday.

According to media reports, several multi-national companies in Chennai have asked their employees to leave office early to avoid hassles.

"Firms operating in Mahindra World City have reportedly asked employees to leave; so have most firms in Olympia Tech Park and TRIL. Hewlett Packard Enterprises has also asked employees in both Chennai premises to leave," stated a report published by The New Indian Express.

Reports suggest that shops in several areas of the city had shut down their shutters late in the afternoon on Monday.

Large-numbers of customers were seen lined up in front of shops buying vegetables and essentials goods.
