Charred Body Of Tamil Nadu Congress President Found, Murder Suspected

The half burnt body of K P K Jeyakumar Dhanasingh, the head of Congress' Tirunelveli (East) unit, were found at his farm in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, on Saturday, two days after he was reported missing. Police reported that his legs were bound with wires.

Jeyakumar's son Jaffrin filed a missing person report on Friday, stating that his father had disappeared since Thursday.

Notably, Jeyakumar, the Congress's Tirunelveli East district president, had purportedly written to the Tirunelveli Superintendent of Police, alleging receiving death threats over financial disputes. He had also noticed suspicious individuals around his residence at night.

In his letter, Jeyakumar reportedly listed the names and contact numbers of several individuals, including senior Congress leaders in the district, with whom he had financial disagreements.

His body has been sent for a postmortem examination. Police have registered a case and are investigating whether it is a case of murder or suicide.

Meanwhile, opposition parties in the state have criticized the ruling DMK government, claiming a deterioration in law and order.

AIADMK General Secretary and former Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami remarked, "The discovery of the burned body of a district president of a national party is the pinnacle of law and order breakdown. In Tamil Nadu, anti-social elements dare to commit any crime without fear of the law or police. The DMK government shows no concern for law and order and is in deep slumber."

Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai expressed concern about the incident, raising questions about the state's law and order situation.
