Three Assam Men Found Dead, Vehicle Burnt in Meghalaya's Jungle
In a grim discovery within the dense jungles of Meghalaya's East Garo Hills district, the charred remains of three men from Assam were unearthed on Wednesday, according to police reports. The trio, hailing from Goalpara district in Assam, met their tragic end in a neighboring state under circumstances that point towards a violent altercation. Their vehicle, too, was found incinerated in the vicinity of Rongmil, adding a layer of mystery to their untimely demise.

East Garo Hills Superintendent of Police, S.A. Rynjah, disclosed that two of the deceased were previously on the police radar. One had allegations of car theft against him, while the other was implicated in cattle theft. The revelation adds a potential motive to the crime, suggesting that their past activities might have led to fatal consequences.
Details emerged that the victims had ventured into Meghalaya on Tuesday, only for their burnt bodies to be discovered partially buried by local law enforcement the following day. "It appears that the three persons were killed by members of a rival gang," stated a police officer from Goalpara, shedding light on the possible dynamics behind the incident.
The recovery operation led to the bodies being exhumed from two separate locations within the jungle. "Two bodies were found together while another was located in a different spot near where their vehicle was discovered burnt," shared an officer from Meghalaya police. This detail suggests a deliberate attempt to conceal the crime.
Concerns grew when family members lost contact with them after their entry into Meghalaya was confirmed on Tuesday morning. Their silence prompted worried relatives to alert the authorities, triggering a search operation that culminated in the tragic discovery. Local villagers played a crucial role by informing district authorities about a burnt vehicle in Rongmil, leading police to the site and subsequently to the bodies.
The deceased were identified as Zahidul Islam, 25, Jamor Ali, 35, and their driver Noor Ahmed, all residents of Dolguma in Goalpara. Following post-mortem examinations and completion of necessary formalities, the bodies were handed over to their grieving families.
Meghalaya police have since initiated an investigation into this heinous act. The case continues to unfold as authorities delve deeper into the circumstances surrounding this tragic event, aiming to bring those responsible to justice.
