Chandrapur Education Department Changes School Hours to Protect Students from Heat Wave
The Chandrapur Zilla Parishad's education department in Maharashtra has instructed schools and colleges to adjust their schedules due to extreme heat. Classes are now to be held from 7 am to 11 am to protect students. Bramhapuri tehsil recorded a high of 45.6 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, while Chandrapur saw 45.5 degrees Celsius, according to officials.

The district has been experiencing severe heat, with temperatures consistently around 45 degrees Celsius in recent days. To prevent health issues from heat waves, the education department has advised educational institutions to implement safety measures for students. The meteorological department's advisory suggests altering school hours and declaring holidays based on the heat wave conditions.
Heat Wave Safety Measures
Students are advised to avoid outdoor physical activities during summer, and classes should not be held outside. Afternoon games are discouraged, and students should be informed about protecting themselves from heat waves and contacting emergency services if needed. Exams must be scheduled in the morning with fan and cooler facilities available.
Under the mid-day meal scheme, children should receive buttermilk and ORS packets to stay hydrated. Schools and colleges of all managements and mediums are required to operate from 7 am to 11 am during the heat wave period.
Guidelines for Educational Institutions
The education department's directives emphasize the importance of ensuring children's safety amid rising temperatures. Schools are urged to take necessary precautions, such as adjusting timings and providing hydration options, to safeguard students' health.
These measures aim to mitigate the risks associated with extreme heat, ensuring that students remain safe while continuing their education during this challenging period.
