Champai Soren Joins BJP As Candidate For Jharkhand Assembly Elections Amid Intense Political Activity

In the run-up to the Jharkhand assembly elections, intense political activity is evident, with candidates from various parties filing their nominations. Among them, Champai Soren, a former chief minister of Jharkhand, has stepped into the fray as the BJP's candidate for the Saraikela assembly constituency. This move comes after Soren's switch to the BJP on 30 August, driven by feelings of insult and humiliation within the JMM leadership. He expressed strong confidence in the BJP's prospects, stating, "There is a wave in favour of the BJP in the Kolhan region as well as the entire Jharkhand. The BJP will form the govt this time."

The electoral battle in Saraikela, a key constituency among the 43 going to polls in the election's first phase on 13 November, showcases the shifting allegiances within Jharkhand's political landscape. Ganesh Mahli, the JMM's nominee for Saraikela, has also submitted his nomination. Interestingly, Mahli is a recent convert to the JMM, having defected from the BJP, the party he now opposes in the upcoming election. This switch underscores the fluid dynamics of party loyalty and electoral strategy in the state.

The elections are scheduled to unfold in two phases, on the 13th and 20th of November, with the results being tallied on the 23rd. The nomination period for candidates eyeing seats in the first phase concluded on Friday, following its commencement on 18 October. This phase witnessed 433 hopefuls officially entering the electoral contest for the initial 43 assembly seats. The process for the second phase began on 22 October and will extend until the 29th, setting the stage for a fiercely contested election.
