Centre to start deporting Rohingya Muslims living illegally

There are no cases of terror against Rohingya Mulsims. However the chances of radicalisation is very high

The Centre has decided to take strong action and deport the Rohingya Muslims living illegally in India. While an estimated count suggests that there may be 40,000 Rohingya Muslims living in India, the Home ministry feels that the number could be much higher as many have crossed over illegally.

While there is an official refugee camp in Jammu, the Home ministry feels that the problem is from those who have crossed over illegally from Myanmar.

When a ministry official was asked if these persons have been roped in by terror groups, he said that there is no indication as yet. The officer added that many may be prone to radicalisation and this could prove dangerous. He further said that Lashkar-e-Tayiba chief Hafiz Saeed had called on the Rohingya Muslims to join the group. "Efforts to rope them in are being made," the officer noted.

The Centre is in the process of deporting those living illegally. They would be deported in accordance with the Foreigner's Act. Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi recently chaired a meeting on Monday to assess the situation. He sought an opinion on tackling the problem and on how to identify and deport those living illegally.
