Centre Mulls On Putting Hoax Bomb Callers On 'No-Fly List': Reports

The government is considering a range of measures in response to the recent bomb threats received by several airlines, including placing hoax callers on a 'no-fly list' and increasing the number of air marshals on board, reported India Today TV.

On Wednesday, officials from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, and Ministry of Home Affairs convened to discuss the bomb threats targeting airlines.

According to sources, the civil aviation ministry is collaborating with law enforcement agencies to identify hoax callers in order to update the 'no-fly list'.

Following intelligence input, discussions have been held about doubling the number of air marshals on flights.

NSG commandos are currently deployed as air marshals, primarily on international and certain sensitive domestic routes. Sky marshals are plainclothes security officers who are armed and travel on passenger planes to ensure safety.

In the past three days, almost a dozen Indian flights, both domestic and international, have received bomb threats that later proved to be hoaxes.

On Wednesday, two flights-one from Akasa Air and one from IndiGo-were among those that received such threats, which were subsequently confirmed as hoaxes.

The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security is working alongside cybersecurity agencies and the police to track down those responsible for the threats.
