While no specific site has been confirmed yet, it’s expected that all decisions will be made in close consultation with the Singh family.

A trust will be established to oversee the memorial’s creation, and once the site is finalized, the land will be allotted accordingly. The government has also expressed its commitment to ensuring that the memorial is a fitting tribute to the former prime minister’s legacy.

Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, accused the BJP of disrespecting the former prime minister by conducting his last rites at Nigam Bodh Ghat in Delhi. They argued that the location did not honour the dignity of his office or his legacy, particularly as he was the first Sikh prime minister of India.

In response, BJP leaders, including Union Minister JP Nadda, criticized the Congress for politicizing the situation, claiming that the party had shown insufficient respect for Dr. Singh during his tenure as prime minister. Nadda emphasized that such criticisms were inappropriate, especially after Congress failed to honour Singh properly during his life.
