Centre appoints former IB director to initiate sustained dialogue in the Valley
The Home Minister also said that Sharma would initiate talks with political parties, elected representatives and other organisations in Kashmir.
The government has decided to start a sustained dialogue in Jammu and Kashmir, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said. The government has appointed former director of the Intelligence Bureau, Dineshwar Sharma to lead the talks.

Singh said that Sharma will be India's representative leading the talks on Kashmir. He would have rank that is equivalent to that of a cabinet secretary, Singh also informed. Sharma would initiate talks with all groups in Kashmir, Singh also said.
The Home Minister also said that Sharma would initiate talks with political parties, elected representatives and other organisations in Kashmir.
The decision was taken by the government in a bid to restore peace in the Valley, The team headed by Sharma would initiate a sustained dialogue in Kashmir. With the Army carrying out a clean up operation of terrorists in the Valley, the centre feels that it is necessary to initiate a sustained dialogue to restore and also maintain peace in the Valley.
