On Sunday, a group of terrorists ambushed a bus carrying pilgrims on its way from the Shiv Khori temple to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine near Teryath village in the Poni area, close to Katra. The attackers opened fire on the bus, causing it to veer off the road and plummet into a deep gorge. This tragic incident echoes a disturbing pattern seen in previous attacks in the Rajouri and Poonch regions, where terrorists target vehicles at bends along the route.

On Monday, authorities released the identities of the nine individuals who tragically lost their lives in the terror attack on a bus transporting pilgrims in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district.

Among the victims are four individuals from Rajasthan, including a two-year-old boy, and three from Uttar Pradesh. Additionally, officials reported that among the 41 pilgrims currently receiving treatment in hospitals across Jammu and Reasi districts, ten have sustained gunshot wounds. Most of the injured pilgrims are from Uttar Pradesh.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Reasi) Vishesh Paul Mahajan confirmed the identification of all nine victims, including the bus driver and conductor. Driver Vijay Kumar hailed from Dasanoo Rajbagh village, while conductor Arun Kumar was a native of Kandera village in Katra, both situated in Reasi district, PTI reported.

The remaining victims are Rajinder Prasad Pandey Sawhney, Mamta Sawhney, Pooja Sawhney, and her two-year-old son Titu Sawhney, all residents of Jaipur in Rajasthan, along with Shivam Gupta, Ruby, and 14-year-old Anurag Verma from Uttar Pradesh.

Mahajan stated that the district administration is facilitating the transportation of the bodies to their respective states. He further noted that among the 41 injured individuals, aged between three and 50, ten sustained gunshot wounds and are now in stable condition post-surgery.

According to Mahajan, eighteen of the injured are receiving treatment at the Government Medical College in Jammu, fourteen at Narayana Hospital, and nine at the district hospital in Reasi. Among the injured, thirty-four are from Uttar Pradesh, five from Delhi, and two from Rajasthan, as per official reports.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken stock of the situation, J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said. "The Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi took stock of the situation and directed me to constantly monitor the situation and to ensure all possible assistance to the families," he said in a post on X.

The security forces have launched a joint operation to hunt down the terrorists, he added.
