CBI to re-examine ED's IPL chargesheet
New Delhi, Sept 25: The Central Bureau of Investigation will re-examine a chargesheet filed in connection with the IPL betting scandal.
A team of the CBI which is probing a bribery scandal involving officials from the Enforcement Directorate has decided to re-look at the IPL betting scandal chargesheet and find out if there was a lacuna in it.

A CBI official informed OneIndia that the matter relating to the chargesheet is under consideration. Our team is ascertaining if some of the bookies got the benefit of the doubt when the chargesheet was filed. There is a connection between the IPL betting scandal and the money laundering racket tracked to Surat in Gujarat and both cases will be re-examined by the CBI now.
Some officials of the Enforcement Directorate from Gujarat had come under the scanner after a senior official was arrested in a bribery scandal. The CBI is checking to find out if the extent of the offence and also says that it is examining the list of persons who could have met with the ED officials when the betting scandal was being probed.
The ED had probed the role of seven bookies from Gujarat accused of placing bets on IPL matches. The ED had also traced transactions to the tune of Rs 2,600 crore. It was found that the bets were being placed on UK based site. The CBI is however of the view that in the chargesheet there are some key points missing and hence are planning on re-examining it.
The CBI official also informed that they are seeking the help of their legal team. A member of the legal team will go through the chargesheet and point out if there is an lacuna in it. This is a necessary asopect to the probe since it will help us link it with the bribery scandal the official also informed.
