Ex-Principal Charged with Rape and Murder in RG Kar Medical College Case by CBI

In a significant development, the CBI has charged Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, with rape and murder. Ghosh is currently in judicial custody for a corruption case, according to an official from the probe agency.

CBI Charges Ex-Principal in Murder Case

The central agency also arrested Abhijit Mondal, the officer in charge of Tala Police Station. Mondal is accused of involvement in the rape and murder of a woman medic on duty at RG Kar Hospital. The hospital falls under Tala Police Station's jurisdiction.

Arrests and Investigations

Three individuals have been arrested so far in connection with this case. On August 9, the semi-nude body of a woman postgraduate trainee was found in the seminar hall of the hospital. This discovery prompted further investigations.

Mondal was questioned by CBI officers at their CGO Complex office for several hours on Saturday. He was arrested in the evening after failing to provide satisfactory answers. The charges against him include destruction of evidence and delay in lodging the FIR.

The CBI officer stated, "He has been questioned eight times earlier and every time he gave different versions. He has been arrested and will be produced in the court tomorrow." Following his arrest, Mondal underwent a customary post-arrest medical test.

Judicial Proceedings

The central agency had applied before a court seeking Ghosh's remand. The court has instructed jail authorities to produce him for CBI custody. Ghosh was initially arrested on September 2 for financial irregularities at the hospital.

Earlier, Kolkata Police had arrested a civic volunteer in connection with the same case. The investigation was later handed over to the CBI by an order from the Calcutta High Court.

This case continues to unfold as authorities work to uncover all details surrounding these serious allegations. The involvement of high-ranking officials has brought significant attention to this investigation.
