Cauvery row: SC tells Karnataka to release 6,000 cusecs water to TN from Sep 21 to 27
New Delhi, Sep 20: The Supreme Court today directed Karnataka to release 6,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu from September 21 to 27.
The interim order of the Supreme Court comes a day after the supervisory committee had directed Karnataka to release 3,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu for ten days.

The Supreme Court had on the last date of hearing directed Karnataka to release 12,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu between September 12 and 20.
The court also directed the union government to constitute the Cauvery Management Board in four weeks time. During the course of the hearing both Karnataka and Tamil Nadu opposed the order of the Supervisory Committee which had ordered the release of 3,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu for ten days.
Karnataka's legal team headed by Senior Counsel, Fali S Nariman told the court that the state will have to sacrifice its drinking water for irrigation purposes in Tamil Nadu. Karnataka also said that it would be wrong to order release of water by cutting off drinking water supply in Bengaluru.
