Caught On Camera: Woman Throws Acid On Dog For 'Bothering' Cats, Leaving Severe Injuries

A woman has been charged with animal cruelty after allegedly pouring acid on a stray dog, causing severe burn injuries and resulting in the loss of one of its eyes. The distressing incident, which occurred in Mumbai's Malvani area, was caught on CCTV footage.

Sabista Ansari, 35 years old, committed the attack on August 17, reportedly driven by previous interactions between the dog, named Brownie, and the cats she used to care for in her building.

Reports indicate that Ansari became upset after Brownie allegedly "harassed" her cat. Despite her warnings to the dog's owners to keep Brownie away from her cat, her concerns were reportedly ignored.

The horrifying incident was captured on the housing society's CCTV cameras. The footage recorded the moment Ansari threw acid on Brownie, causing the dog to run in agony.

TV actor and celebrity Jaya Bhattacharya, along with her team, stepped in to rescue Brownie upon learning about the incident. Brownie was taken to "Thank You Earth," an NGO founded by Bhattacharya that focuses on rescuing and caring for distressed animals.

Bhattacharya reported the incident to the police and provided a doctor's certificate detailing Brownie's injuries. She expressed shock at the situation, stating, "It is shocking that someone who feeds cats would attack another animal."

The Mumbai police have registered a case against Ansari under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, IPC Section 429, Section 11 (1), and Section 119 of the Maharashtra Police Act for allegedly using acid on a dog in the Malad-Malvani area.

Balasaheb Tukaram Bhagat, a resident of the housing society, filed a complaint detailing Brownie's five-year presence in the community and Ansari's repeated attempts to chase the dog away while tending to the cats.

Numerous animal welfare organizations have condemned the incident, emphasizing the need for responsible addressing of such matters.
