Legal Action Initiated Against SP MLA for False Allegations in Baheri
In a recent development that has stirred the political landscape of Bareilly, Samajwadi Party MLA from Baheri, Attaur Rahman, finds himself embroiled in legal trouble. A formal complaint has led to the registration of a case against him for allegedly making derogatory remarks and levelling false accusations against BJP Lok Sabha candidate from Bareilly, Chhatrapal Gangwar, and his nephew. The incident has sparked a debate on the conduct of public representatives and their speech.

Circle Officer (CO) Pankaj Srivastava disclosed that the case was lodged following a complaint by Jitendra Kumar, a local resident under the jurisdiction of the Devarniya police station. The complaint accuses Rahman of inciting enmity and making statements that could disrupt public harmony and defame individuals. The charges framed under sections 153 A, 505, and 500 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) were registered at the Kotwali police station on Saturday evening, as per directives from the Senior Superintendent of Police.
Details of the Allegations
The FIR, based on Jitendra Kumar's complaint, highlights an incident on April 16 at Bareilly's Nehru Yuva Kendra where MLA Attaur Rahman purportedly referred to Chhatrapal Gangwar and his nephew as "robbers" during his speech. Rahman is accused of threatening business owners with extortion calls from these alleged 'robbers' and vowed to rid Bareilly of them. His speech also reportedly contained comments aimed at stirring religious tensions. A video capturing these remarks has since been circulated widely.
Investigation Underway
CO Pankaj Srivastava confirmed that an investigation into the matter is actively ongoing. The case against Attaur Rahman underscores the critical issue of responsible speech by political figures, especially during sensitive times. As this situation unfolds, it serves as a reminder of the impact words can have in shaping public discourse and the legal boundaries within which political dialogue should occur.
The incident has not only brought to light allegations of defamation and public mischief but also raises questions about the ethical responsibilities of elected officials. With the investigation set to delve deeper into the allegations, all eyes are now on the unfolding legal proceedings and their implications for political conduct in Bareilly.
