Campaign to add Tulu to 8th schedule takes Twitter by storm, DVS adds strength

A Twitter campaign has gained momentum after prominent personalities from the belt have shown support

The demand to include Tulu in the 8th schedule of the Constitution has received a new lease of life with social media campaigns. Union Minister D V Sadananda Gowda strengthened the campaign by voicing his support for the same.

On Thursday night, D V Sadananda Gowda tweeted in support of the #tuluto8thshedule campaign. The longstanding demand of the people from coastal Karnataka and neighbouring parts of Kerala has been given digital avatar.

Tulu is considered one of the ancient languages of the Dravidian family. Members of Tulu associations floated a Twitter campaign between 6 PM and 9 PM on Thursday and many, including leaders from political parties, tweeted their stand on the issue. Social media campaigns on Facebook were also carried out earlier. The campaign was aimed at bringing together voices from Tulunadu and ensuring that the government takes notice.

The organisers said that Twitter is the common man's platform to convey his or her message to the government. The tweets and their impact, the organisers hope, reach the Prime Minister and political leaders from Kerala and Karnataka where the language is spoken.
