C J Roy, the founder and chairman of Confident Group, tragically ended his life on Friday afternoon, as confirmed by Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh. The incident occurred at his office near Richmond Circle, where he used his licensed firearm. Staff members discovered him after hearing a gunshot and rushed him to a hospital, but doctors declared him dead upon arrival.

Income Tax searches had been ongoing at Roy's premises for the past three days, according to I-T sources. These searches reportedly began two months ago. Commissioner Singh stated that the incident took place between 3 pm and 3:30 pm under Ashoka Nagar police station limits. A complaint was filed by a director of Confident Group, leading to a police case registration.

Investigation and Reactions

The investigation will determine if the case involves abetment to suicide, Singh mentioned. He added that the searches were conducted by an I-T team from Kerala, and the police have yet to communicate with them. Currently, no I-T officers are present for questioning. Forensic and crime teams have examined the scene, but no eyewitnesses have been confirmed.

Roy's brother expressed concerns about pressure from a central agency during a phone interview with a Malayalam news channel. He claimed Roy faced stress over the past few days due to the Income Tax team's actions. Despite having no financial issues or debts, Roy's brother believes this pressure contributed to his drastic decision.

Legacy and Tributes

Roy's passing has deeply affected the real estate sector and Confident Group's customers. Known for his philanthropy, he once promised flats to underprivileged winners at a real estate event. Under his leadership, Confident Group became a top developer in Kerala and Bengaluru, completing numerous projects in these regions.

On social media, many prominent figures paid tribute to Roy. Chef Suresh Pillai described him as a mentor, while businessman Gokulam Gopalan remembered him as a man of integrity who kept his word. The loss is particularly felt among Malayalis living outside Kerala and abroad.

Family and Personal Life

Roy's family has been informed of his death and is expected to arrive soon. Originally from Kerala, Roy had a passion for high-end cars but cherished his Maruti-800 for its sentimental value. He also produced four Malayalam films during his lifetime.

The Confident Group shared a heartfelt message on Facebook mourning their leader's loss. "Our beloved leader has departed from us, but not from the path he showed us," they wrote. They emphasised that Roy's values and vision would continue guiding their journey forward.
