Bypolls 2024: 48 Assembly Seats, Wayanad And Nanded LS Constituencies Set To Vote Soon
The Election Commission of India has declared that by-elections for 47 Assembly seats alongside the Lok Sabha constituencies of Wayanad in Kerala and Nanded in Maharashtra are scheduled to take place in November. Specifically, the voting for Wayanad and the 47 Assembly constituencies is slated for November 13, while the bypoll for the Nanded Parliamentary constituency and one Assembly seat in Uttarakhand is set for November 20. This announcement was made on October 15, 2024, with Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar overseeing the electoral process.

Candidates vying for positions in these upcoming by-elections must submit their nominations by October 25. Following this, the last day for withdrawal of candidature is earmarked for October 30. The counting of votes is scheduled for November 23, with the results expected to be announced on the same day. This meticulous scheduling underlines the Election Commission's efforts to ensure a smooth electoral process.
The Wayanad bypoll arises as a result of Rahul Gandhi, a prominent figure from the Congress party, resigning from his Lok Sabha seat to retain his position in the Rae Bareli constituency. In a strategic move aimed at bolstering the Congress party's presence in South India, particularly Kerala, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has been announced as the candidate for the Wayanad constituency. Her candidature is seen as a significant step towards the Congress party's efforts to expand its influence in the region, showcasing the party's commitment to strengthening its foothold in southern India.
